Copy Editor Erin Elliott

Erin is a native of Ishpeming and graduated from high school in 1998. She went on to Northern Michigan University and earned a bachelor’s degree in English writing.

While at NMU, Erin was chairwoman of the North Wind student newspaper’s board of directors and graduated from the Student Leader Fellowship Program. As part of that program, she did an internship at C.L. Phelps Middle School in Ishpeming and advised the Panther Pawprint, the student newspaper, for one year.

She began her professional career as a freelance writer for the Marquette Monthly in January 2001. In June of that year, she became a regular staffer and served as the calendar editor for the next four years, eventually adding the duties of a regular writer and the primary copy editor. It was during that time that she also met a fabulous gal named Kristy Basolo and the two became fast friends in addition to being a dynamite professional duo.

From 2002-2004, Erin also was the assistant director of 8-18 Media, a youth journalism program of the U.P. Children’s Museum in Marquette.

Currently, Erin is the community news editor at the American Jewish World in Minneapolis, a weekly newspaper sent by subscription to the Jewish communities of Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs. Thanks to the Internet, she classifies as a long-distance copy editor for God’s Country.

In her spare time, Erin enjoys reading, watching good TV and engaging in witty cell phone conversations with Kristy.
